Age: 26 years old

Died: November 16, 2005 in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Unit: Marines, Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Incident: Killed by small arms fire while conducting combat operations against enemy forces during Operation Steel Curtain in Ubaydi

Note: *Lieutenant McGlothlin was posthumously promoted to First Lieutenant

Lieutenant McGlothlin was also awarded the Silver Star for valor

 

 

 

 

Over 300 people were in attendance at the ceremony including Ryan’s Battalion Commander Colonel Robert G. Oltman USMC, Company Commander Major Ross Parrish USMC and Warrant Officer Michael D. Fay now USMC (Ret) who was an embedded Combat Artist with Ryan’s Platoon. Also in attendance were Member’s of the Tri-Cities Detachment 969 and member’s of the SW VA Detachment 980 of the Marine Corps League, member’s of both the Lebanon, Virginia American Legion and VFW, TN Chapter 4 Rolling Thunder as well as G. Alan Howard National Program Manager for Operation Never Forget, Mayor Tony Dodi, the entire town council and scores of Ryan’s family, friends and neighbors.

Ryan’s bust will be on permanent display in the Russell County Governmental Center for the next several years until a Veterans Park is completed in front of the center.

On November 14, 2009 “Ryan” was once again honored for eternity when his bronze bust was unveiled and dedicated in his hometown of Lebanon, VA.
